Definition: Computer Process

By Jack Krupansky

A computer process is an instance of a computer program being executed by a computer or more specifically by a computer processor.

We may also refer to a running computer program or a computer program being run by a computer.

A computer process tends to run on a single processor of a computer, but concurrent programming and threading can enable the operating system to allocate portions of a process to more than one processor of a given computer system.

Variant of process.

Singular of computer processes.
