Definition: Emergent Semantics

By Jack Krupansky

Emergent semantics are semantics that evolve over time in an ad-hoc manner in response to their environment, without any pre-existing "intelligent design".

Synonymous with ground-up semantics, grassroots semantics, and evolutionary semantics.

See "Emergent Semantics" by Eric A. Meyer, Complex Spiral Consulting, 2005.
